TAKE. IT. BACK!

"Well, well. Look who's got his nose in a spellbook he can't even use."

Gliese would roll his eyes, were he not so bored with Leo's heckling by now. Instead, he opted to ignore him completely, turning another page. The unicorn seemed offended by his lack of a response, stepping a bit closer and speaking more loudly.

"Hey. I'm talking to you, halfbreed. Or can that little brain only focus on one thing at a time?"

Again, no response. Gliese wondered when the colt would grow tired of focusing on him. He must've fancied him an easy target, given he was isolated most of the time and his differences were easier to discern from the other unicorns that studied at his mother's library. The boy was wasting his time, puffing up his ego and throwing his weight around. Gliese was perfectly aware he wasn't like anypony else, and that his talent had yet to manifest itself.

Neither particularly bothered him...at least, not in a way this moron would be able to meaningfully demean him for. Magic took time and patience to cultivate. Leo was the sort that confused his proficiency with basic spells for talent, and as such had rushed through lessons without taking time to fully appreciate the principles of magic that laid the foundations for later, more complicated magics.

He'd realize his mistakes soon enough. In the meantime, Gliese would endure his gibberings in silence. At least, that was the plan. And it worked for a while, Leo seeming to grow bored as he conjured up insult after insult about the halfbreed's lack of abilities, about his strange reptilian legs, about the disturbing batlike wings on his back. It worked right up until the boy landed on something of actual substance:

"I heard them talking about your father, you know. About how he's a disgusting freak."

"I don't know what you're talking about," Gliese replied at last, unable to curb his defensiveness when it came to his father. Nobody understood Discord, not really. Not even his own mother seemed to. Even if Gliese couldn't claim to ENTIRELY understand his father's mind, he appreciated it.

"Is it true? Is he really a horrible monster? Would explain how ugly you are."

"My father," Gliese began, setting his book down to punctuate his words. "Is a brilliant man, and a misunderstood genius."

That made Leo burst into gleeful, rude laughter, and even though Gliese knew he was giving him precisely what he wanted, he found himself baited into further anger.

"You don't know anything! None of you do! So why don't you mind your own business and leave me ALONE!"

"No way! You're too hilarious!" the other guffawed. "Tell me, tell me. Did he hypnotize Princess Celestia to see him as a handsome prince? That's what I heard he did! I heard Mama say she'd have to be really sick in the head to find a gross, disgusting thing like him lovable!"

That did it. With a roar, Gliese flew over the table, hooves flashing as he struck at the other. He landed a solid blow, knocking the other off his feet with a surprised yelp. Now that he let himself feel it, his anger overpowered him, the boy kicking and kicking and kicking, giving Leo no chance to fight back.

"TAKE IT BACK!" Gliese demanded, voice higher and more furious than it had ever been. "TAKE IT BACK, TAKE IT BACK--!!"

Moral of the story: NEVER insult Gliese's parents in front of him. 

I actually drew this a long time ago, but never finished it. I wanna say I sketched it while watching that one scene of young Spock going apeshit on some other kids from the new Star Trek movies, since I could easily see Gliese doing the same thing, if his family was insulted. He's very protective of his father in particular, seeing him as both a role model and a source of encouragement (albeit for his bad behaviors, but poor little thing, approval is approval in his eyes).
